Vitamin D3V® is produced using Chlorophyta algae (green macroalgae), grown and stressed in carefully-controlled conditions. We use an Ultrasound extraction process, which avoids the need for harsh solvents such as Methanol or Hexane. Vitamin D3V® ingredients are produced in UK at BRC, GMP, HACCP and FDA-registered facilities. Our ingredients are Vegan Society, Kosher and Halal certified.
Algae are one of nature's most amazing innovators and survivors. They adapt to survive and thrive in harsh environments, producing an array of bioactive compounds.
We have over 20 years of experience working with algae, studying how growth and stress conditions influence the production of high-value nutrients and active ingredients.
We manage every step of the supply chain, from growing the algae, through extraction processes, and crystallisation steps. This, together with our advanced, validated, chemical marker analysis work, ensures full verification of source authenticity.
Vitamin D3V® ingredients are manufactured in UK at BRC, GMP, HACCP and FDA-registered facilities, ensuring the highest levels of quality and traceability.
We work with third party accredited laboratories to test the purity of our ingredients.

Our latest "Clean Label" powder utilises Gum Arabic alone to microencapsulate the 1miu/g Oil. We also offer Powders using Maltodextrin and Corn Syrup Solids as the substrates.
INGREDIENT LISTS
Vitamin D3V® 100,000iu/g Powder - Clean Label (D3V09GB)
Arabic Gum, Medium Chain Triglyceride (Coconut), Cholecalciferol, Tocopherol Rich Extract
Vitamin D3V® 100,000iu/g Powder (D3V07GB)
Maltodextrin, Arabic Gum, Medium Chain Triglyceride (Coconut), Ascorbic Acid, Cholecalciferol, Tocopherol Rich Extract
We also offer an older powder composition (D3V02), based on Corn Syrup solids (with or without SiO₂), available on request.
Vitamin D3V® ingredients are made using Chlorophyta Algae, also known as Green Macroalgae (green seaweeds).
One of the most common Chlorophyta Macroalgal species is Ulva Lactuca (Sea Lettuce). All species we have validated are fully approved for human consumption and widely used in foods globally.
No, we do not use Soy compounds. Firstly, Soy is an allergen, often carrying through to Soy derivatives.
Secondly, Soy-based materials cannot meet our responsible sourcing approach. Soy can be from unsustainable growing conditions and deforestation. Even waste streams are ultimately coming from, and adding value to, potentially harmful initial supply chains.
This has been a major focus, and we've worked with multiple Universities and Expert Laboratories to validate methods.
Thanks to our advanced and validated chemical marker analysis methods, we can verify ingredient origin to provide our customers with peace of mind in a world where adulteration is sadly a huge problem.
Yes. We are proud to have worked with The Vegan Society since Day 1. In fact, we consulted The Vegan Society during the research project long before Vitamin D3V® was launched.
The Vegan Society investigates every step of the supply chain, a level of detail that we welcome, therefore perfectly looking after the interest of Vegan producers and consumers.
No, we do not use either Silicon Dioxide or Phosphates such as Tricalcium Phosphate in our standard Powder range.
We do have an older Powder variant available on request that can contain SiO₂, but this is not a standard product.
We manufacture Vitamin D3V® ingredients here in UK. That allows us to ensure complete control of authenticity, quality, and purity.
Our supply chains also ensure our carbon footprint is minimised. We hold local stocks of all Vitamin D3V® ingredients.
Yes. Vitamin D3V® is initially produced as Cholecalciferol 40miu/g Crystal, and has been tested against European Phamacopoeia (Ph Eur) and United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) monographs for Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol).
We have also tested against United States Food Chemical Codex (FCC) compliance for Cholecalciferol.
All batches of Vitamin D3V® are tested at third party accredited laboratories to ensure compliance and purity.
No, Vitamin D3V® ingredients are classified as not novel in Europe.
We worked with renowned industry consultants Intertek to compile our regulatory dossier to ensure compliance, including in respect of the Novel Foods Regulation.
We also worked with renowned US attorneys Hyman Phelps & McNamara P.C to ensure compliance in respect of US FDA and Health Canada regulations.
Yes, it is significantly greener. We also manufacture Phytosterol Vitamin D3, which is completely synthetic, whereas Vitamin D3V® (Algal D3) does not require the extensive synthetic chemical-conversion steps.
Although both are "plant-source" and vegan suitable, it is fair to say Phytosterol Vitamin D3 is synthesised to within an inch of its life! Naturally, synthetic D3 is much cheaper, but Algal D3 is much, much "greener". The low cost-in-use relating to Vitamin D3 ensures the on-cost difference to our customer formulations remains negligible.
Yes. We are proud to have worked with Kosher London Beth Din (KLBD) since launching Vitamin D3V®. Rabbis from KLDB visit our facilities regularly to audit.
For Halal we have been working with Halal Faizabad Foundation since 2022, and we have found them to be incredible helpful and during the auditing process.
No, Vitamin D3V® should be labelled as Cholecalciferol.
This is because it is produced as Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) rather than an extract containing Vitamin D3.
No, we do not use hexane, methanol, or any other harsh solvents during the Vitamin D3V® extraction process.
Thanks to a project working with Hielscher Ultrasonics and SciMed, we are able to utilise advanced Ultrasound extraction. This highly efficient and intense process allows extraction using the water media as the sole solvent.
This is one of many reasons Vitamin D3V® Algal D3 is significantly greener than animal-source or synthetic (Phytosterol) Vitamin D3.
Yes, and both were central aims from the outset. Algae grow quickly (sometimes too quickly!) and can be grown in closed, fully-controlled conditions. This ensures complete sustainability and no negative environmental impact. In fact, there is no waste with our Algae. The parts we don't use for Vitamin D3V® are further processed and used for the Cosmetic industry, and the very last post-extraction "soup" (the nearest thing we have to waste) benefits local grass fields, making the landowners and users very happy indeed! Scalability is no problem, as the algal growing and stressing conditions can be replicated at different locations, as can the onward processing.
No, Vitamin D3V® ingredients do not contain any Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).
This applies to the algae and also all other components within our Vitamin D3V® ingredients.
We have customers for Vitamin D3V® all over the world, including many of the biggest brands, retailers, and multinationals in the food and supplement industry.
Look out for the Vitamin D3V® logo, which some customers put on their product labels.
Some customers of course request that we do not share their name, but your local Vitamin D3V® ingredient distributor can show you many market examples from the hundreds of products and brands containing Vitamin D3V®.
No, Vitamin D3V® is produced as Cholecalciferol, so is not considered to be an Algal extract.
It is classified as Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3).
Yes, absolutely!
Our team has vast experience in Product Formulation and Manufacturing, so we can provide full technical support and assistance with any queries relating to our ingredients and how to work with the.
Wherever traditional animal-source (Lanolin etc.) Vitamin D3 can be used, so too can Vitamin D3V®.
Our ingredients allow direct substitution of animal-source Vitamin D3 or indeed Vitamin D2.
