Our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 is produced to the highest quality standards using non-soy phytosterols. It complies with both the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) and United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) monographs for Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Designed as a direct replacement for animal-derived sources such as lanolin, it follows the same synthetic pathway while avoiding all animal and dairy compounds, making it a fully plant-based, vegan-friendly Vitamin D3 option.
The synthetic pathway is identical. In the case of animal-origin D3 (Lanolin etc.), Cholesterol is extracted and purified but requires significant chemical treatment of materials already subject to solvents and pesticides. We convert our Phytosterol to Cholesterol using multiple synthetic steps, and from that point, the onward chemistry and photochemistry is the same:
Phytosterol -> Cholesterol -> 7-Dehydrocholesterol -> Vitamin D3
We manage and monitor every step of the supply chain from the Phytosterol sourcing to the final crystallisation steps. This, together with our advanced, validated, chemical marker analysis work, ensures full verification of source authenticity.
Our Phytosterol ingredients are manufactured in UK at BRC, GMP, HACCP and FDA-registered facilities, ensuring the highest levels of quality and traceability.
We work with third party accredited laboratories to test the purity of our ingredients.
We have validated Phytosterols obtained from Pine and Canola, including from waste streams.
We avoid Soy because it is an allergen, often carrying through to Soy derivatives.
Soy-based materials also do not meet our responsible sourcing values. Soy can be from unsustainable growing conditions and deforestation. Even waste streams are ultimately coming from potentially harmful initial supply chains. We not only avoid Soy Phytosterols, we ensure other components (inc. our Vitamin E) are non-Soy.
The usual focus of our customers is to replace animal-origin Vitamin D3 with plant-source Vitamin D3, but Vitamin D2 still makes up 25% of the Vitamin D ingredient market.
It is no exaggeration to say that with our Plant-source Vitamin D3 ingredients, there is literally no need to compromise by using D2. It is less effective, less stable, and is expensive. You can find out more here.

Phytosterol Vitamin D3 100,000iu/g Powder is Algal-origin Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) 100,000iu/g (0.25%), presented in a powder using Maltodextrin as the substrate.
INGREDIENT LIST
Phytosterol Vitamin D3 100,000iu/g Powder (RC50)
Maltodextrin, Arabic Gum, Medium Chain Triglyceride (Coconut), Ascorbic Acid, Cholecalciferol, Tocopherol Rich Extract
We also offer customised powder options on request.
We have validated Pine and Canola Phytosterols. Both contain the target Phytosterol material, and are readily available from sustainable sources.
Pine is the most cost-effective option due to the scale of available sustainable raw material. Canola remains interesting because we've validated waste stream material, from Vegetable Oil producers post-winterisation.
No, we do not use Soy compounds. Firstly, Soy is an allergen, often carrying through to Soy derivatives.
Secondly, Soy-based materials cannot meet our responsible sourcing approach. Soy can be from unsustainable growing conditions and deforestation. Even waste streams are ultimately coming from, and adding value to, potentially harmful initial supply chains.
This has been a major focus, and we've worked with multiple Universities and Expert Laboratories to validate methods.
Thanks to our advanced and validated chemical marker analysis methods, we can verify ingredient origin to provide our customers with peace of mind in a world where adulteration is sadly a huge problem, especially when it comes to Phytosterol Vitamin D3.
Yes. We are proud to have worked with The Vegan Society since Day 1. In fact, we consulted The Vegan Society during the original research projects for our products.
The Vegan Society investigates every step of the supply chain, a level of detail that we welcome, therefore perfectly looking after the interest of Vegan producers and consumers.
No, we do not use either Silicon Dioxide or Phosphates such as Tricalcium Phosphate in our standard Powder.
We can offer customised Powder variants on request, for example if a customer is seeking a compositional match to an incumbent powder material containing certain flow aids.
We manufacture our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 ingredients here in UK. That allows us to ensure complete control of authenticity, quality, and purity.
Our supply chains also ensure our carbon footprint is minimised.
Yes. Vitamin D3V® is initially produced as Cholecalciferol 40miu/g Crystal, and has been tested against European Phamacopoeia (Ph Eur) and United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) monographs for Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol).
We have also tested against United States Food Chemical Codex (FCC) compliance for Cholecalciferol.
All batches of Vitamin D3V® are tested at third party accredited laboratories to ensure compliance and purity.
No, Vitamin D3V® ingredients are classified as not novel in Europe.
We worked with renowned industry consultants Intertek to compile our regulatory dossier to ensure compliance, including in respect of the Novel Foods Regulation.
We also worked with renowned US attorneys Hyman Phelps & McNamara P.C to ensure compliance in respect of US FDA and Health Canada regulations.
Yes it is. We manufacture both Phytosterol Vitamin D3 and Algal D3.
Phytosterol Vitamin D3 is completely synthetic, whereas Vitamin D3V® (Algal D3) does not require the extensive synthetic chemical-conversion steps.
Although both are "plant-source" and vegan suitable, it is fair to say Phytosterol Vitamin D3 is synthesised to within an inch of its life! Naturally, Phytosterol Vitamin D3 is much cheaper, but Algal D3 is much, much "greener" for companies seeking a credible "green angle. The low cost-in-use relating to Vitamin D3 ensures the on-cost difference to our customer formulations remains negligible.
Yes. We are proud to have worked with Kosher London Beth Din (KLBD) since launching our products. Rabbis from KLDB visit our facilities regularly to audit.
For Halal we have been working with Halal Faizabad Foundation since 2022, and we have found them to be incredible helpful and during the auditing process.
Wherever traditional animal-source (Lanolin etc.) Vitamin D3 can be used, so too can our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 ingredients.
Our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 ingredients allow direct substitution of animal-source Vitamin D3 or indeed Vitamin D2.
Our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 ingredients are manufactured in UK at BRC, GMP, HACCP, and FDA-registered facilities.
We then test all batches of our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 ingredients at third party accredited laboratories, with expertise in Vitamin D3 analysis, to ensure compliance and purity.
Yes, and both were central aims from the outset. Sustainable sources of Phytosterols were of paramount importance, together with ensuring responsible sourcing of starting materials that are not linked to any negative environmental impact.
Scalability is no problem, as the Phytosterol starting material is readily available, and we have validated multiple options. The manufacturing scale available to us has the scope for continuing extensive volume expansion.
No, our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 ingredients do not contain any Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).
This applies to the Phytosterol starting material itself, and also all other components within our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 ingredients.
Yes, absolutely! Vitamin D2 was traditionally considered to be the 'Vegetarian Vitamin', however it has significantly lower efficacy, is expensive, and has poor stability.
As well as allowing the replacement of animal-origin Vitamin D3, our Phytosterol Vitamin D3 ingredients offer direct replacements for Vitamin D2, enhancing the performance and efficacy of the formulation, while also improving the marketing value and potential without a cost impact!
